The A to Z Guide to Getting Website Traffic

From Unknown

The A to Z Guide to Getting Website Traffic

In September of 1999, Brett Tabke wrote "26 Steps to 15k a Day" in the Webmaster World forum. A lot has changed since then, and now is the time to consider a new 26-step plan that meets the current needs of webmasters in 2006. Some of the old ones still apply (writing new content everyday, for example), and some don't (submitting to the search engines is no longer necessary), and we're here to tell you which is which! As you probably already know, bringing in traffic is not easy - it takes hard work, determination and lots of elbow grease. So if you're ready, roll up your sleeves and follow these 26 simple steps, and within just one year you will generate enough traffic to keep you busy for a long, long time!

I got quite a bit of links by giving out free scripts (with "powered by mydomain.com" links), ppl got it and installed it on their site. Most of them keep the "powered by" links there....

First of all, thanks for the keyword list in the high paying keywords page. But is there any way to get a rough CPC for there keywords ? I know u can check each of them (one by one) using overture bidtool.... but that seems too time consuming, any quicker way ?

Thanks!

Dmoz - The Open Directory Project

dmoz.org is one of the most important directory that you may want to submit your site to....

Quoted from the mesg (after submitting a site there):

"Once your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, AltaVista, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search, etc."

That will get your site indexed in most well-known serach engine.

Anyone tried webring? I heard that by joining a webring, you link to other ring members and you get them linking back to you. Is this a good idea in building links ?

Worth Reading about link devel

When you write an article for distribution, how many different sites and/or directories do you usually submit it to?

About 6 - but only the top ones. Don't waste time on the small ones, in my opinion. Takes maybe 30 minutes per article, but I usually can expect at least 25 and maybe as many as a few hundred links out of it. I have a newer site that has no reciprocal links at all, but I wrote 4 articles about it and one of them got picked up from a top directory and was used in one of the industry's biggest email newsletters. The exposure of that one article now has that site ranking #1 on a major search engine for 2 keywords that get a decent number of searches. All of that from a grand total of about 3 hours of work (2½ to write the article and about 30 minutes to submit it).
