Yahoo! Launches a New Ad Platform

From Yahoo!

Yahoo Inc. on Monday said it will unveil a new search advertising platform during the third quarter of 2006 designed to help businesses better connect to Yahoo users. Yahoo said the new platform will allow advertisers to quickly launch search advertising campaigns across Yahoo and its distribution network and be rolled out on a country-by-country basis in multiple phases.

The first phase, which involves building the core data platform and technologies, is almost finished. The second phase, set to begin in the third quarter, will involve making Yahoo's new campaign management application and initial features accessible to advertisers.

New Alliance - Microsoft plus Yahoo!

From Reuters/SEO Earnings

Microsoft Corp. has held discussions to buy a stake in Internet media company Yahoo Inc. to compete against Google Inc., the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

If this comes true, it will make a change to the search marketing. You know what Microsoft's strength is its domination on the operating system, what if Microsoft provides the default search engine to Yahoo! with your new Internet Explorer 7 installation on your computer and asks you to set it default whenever you update the patch from your Windows. Or install a desktop search tools from Yahoo! brand?

Just got an email from Adsense Team, they have been working on the new features on Adsense and here are the update from their email:

1. Google AdWords referrals

We have added Google AdWords to the growing list of products which you can refer to your users using the AdSense referrals feature. Add an AdWords referral button to your site and inform your users about the value of advertising on Google and our network of partner sites. You will earn $20 when an advertiser you refer spends $100 on advertising within 90 days. AdWords referrals are available by visiting the AdSense Setup tab and choosing Referrals as the product.

Google's Complained Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7

From New York Times

Google has complained to the Justice Department that Microsoft's new browser unfairly steers Web traffic into using Microsoft's MSN Internet search service. The browser -- Internet Explorer 7 -- contains a slender box in the corner that allows users to type in a query without going to an online search site, and the software is set up to use MSN. Microsoft says customers can easily change the settings to use other search engines such as Google or Yahoo! A Google spokesman said Microsoft was "taking away choice from users."

ALT matters again in Google?

From SEO Earnings

Recently, we are trying to revamp one of our client's homepage with SEO, and we have tried to put the related keyword in the "title" tag, but this round, we want to do a little experiment on the importance of the "alt" attribute.

Surprisingly, we found that some of our page rank high to ten something within a week after googlebot visit. This wonders us that does ALT tags matter again in Google again, or Google has rebuilt its own ATL index. Actually the ATL index is sort of rumor in the net without any proof of it. Anyway, we are now trying to use some competitive keywords and try to verify the effect of ALT again.

Google Search Result Relevant?

From SEO Earnings

Have u ever heard of "Golden Triangle" eye-tracking study? The Golden Triangle is triangle-shaped viewing pattern that reaches out from the top left of the search results page that "traps" the bulk user eyeballs. Some people use this study to measure the relevancy.

According to the new data from Hotchkiss, the Golden Triangle isn't limited to just Google. It works on MSN and Yahoo as well. However, the Golden Triangle on MSN and Yahoo is apparently larger than it is on Google, which may not be a good thing for perceived relevancy.

Behavioral Targeting Online Ad Spend

From iMedia Connection

As mass-market advertising loses some of its power in the face of an increasingly fragmented audience, online ad targeting is gaining in popularity. It comes in many forms, but behavioral targeting, in which ads are served based upon a user's actions and choices on a site or network of sites, is growing particularly strongly. Spending on behavior targeted online advertising is likely to exceed $2 billion by 2008.

Think Strategically and Avoid the Search Engine Sweat

From Search Engine Guide

As a frequenter of online forums, I am concerned to see so many newbie entrepreneurs so dangerously invested in their Google rankings. While no one likes to watch their rankings drop like a stone from a top ten position, facing negative profits and the sleepless nights that follow thereafter is entirely unnecessary.
Is Google Ranking it in From Small Publishers?

From Search Engine Guide

There's a concept in business called "the float." It's basically defined as the time period when you hold on to someone else's money, earning interest off of it, before you have to give it to them. Think of the money in your bank account, sitting in PayPal, or sitting in your Google AdSense account. That's the point being made by Nicholas Carr in his Rough Type blog this week.

@ NAB: AP's Curley, Google's Mayer Talk Aggregation - Carefully; AP-Google Deal?

From PaidContent.org

The setting was a super session on the future of news with Tom Curley, president and CEO of AP, and Marissa Mayer, VP-search products and user experience, of Google among the panelists. Curley was asked by moderator John Siegenthaler, the NBC/MSNBC anchor, if AP would consider going directly to consumers . Curley emphatically replied, “No. We’re a business-to-business model and we’re going to stay there. I have $700 million in revenue and an organization/staff set up to take care of that $700 million and to try to switch to another model doesn’t make any sense. I think the last thing the world needs is someone else out there trying to create another destination site. One of our competitors famously tried that about 18 months ago. … ” Siegenthaler then asked if AP is fairly compensated when its work “gets out there” in aggregators like Google. Curley: “Let’s see if Marissa can answer that.”
